Drawing Hands

I. Drawing my hands was rather quick and easy. There wasn't any difficulty in reproducing the form, shadows or lines.

II. I chose to go with a HB pencil at first then used a dull 6B pencil. I've always had a preference for pencil, mainly because it isn't as messy and thick as charcoal. Although I do prefer charcoal when working on large projects that require a lot of shadowing because it is easier to smear.

III. I did not feel any great difference with switching hands because I am ambidextrous. My grandmother was ambidextrous and at a very very young age I realized that I am equally dominant in both hands. I am able to write with both hands, bat (in a baseball setting) with both hands, shoot pool and many other things.

IV. I do think my final drawings are successful. I liked the way it turned out.

V. I would consider using either hand for future artwork creations. It doesn't bother me at all to use either or.

Renaissance Men

I. I chose to watch the video the Drawings of Michaelangelo and Leonardo di Vinci The Mind of the Renaissance because they both were heavy hitters during the Renaissance and have been two of very few artists that intrigue me the most. Not only were these men versatile in their work but they were also versatile in their personal lives. Michaelangelo being a painter, poet, architect and Leonardo being a brilliant inventor, sculptor, architect, musician, engineer and scientist, these men are the true definitions of what a Renaissance man is.

II. In the video on Michaelangelo there was alot of comparison between his artworks and elaborations on the techniques he used to create his works. The video on Leonardo was great in the sense that he is depicted as the epitome of a Renaissance Man and goes into depth on his life from his birth in Tuscany to his last years alive and spent in Cloux.

III. The videos relate to the text more when dealing with Michaelangelo than Leonardo because the drawings of Michaelangelo and techniques were discussed in the text, however, the depth of Leonardo's life wasn't as detailed in the text as it was in the video.

IV. I took alot of interest in these two particular films as opposed to other films I've seen for this class because I had already been incredibly interested in the artists while reading the book. The videos provided greater insight of the lives of the artist than the readings did. By far my favorite videos.

Video Blog: Mod 8

More Human than Human: Depicts the way we as humans favor images that are exaggerated and  unrealistic due to the way the human mind works. It also revolves how humans make art and how art makes us human. We are dominated by imagery and this video greatly explores that in different ways. Although I did not pick this video per se I understand why is I was required to watch it. It explores the beginning of the imagery of the human body and other forms that sets the stage in understanding the many artworks to come later on.

Cataclysm: The Black Death Visits Tuscany, intrigued me with the title itself. It discusses a Plague born in China and carried to Europe that lasted almost a year that reached Tuscany in 1348. The result of the plague resulted in the loss of almost half of Europes population and its influence in art there after.

Birth of the Middle Ages was chosen because I enjoyed learning about the middle ages in our text and figured why not watch a video on it, so that I can relate what I've read to what I've learned through video. The video depicts the birth of the middles and its influences in modern worlds today.

Each video relates to the readings in the text because it goes more into depth of the topic at hand. Chapter 14 and 15 spent a great deal on tracing back to the beginning of things, such as paintings of religious figures, and using space differently than traditional ways so the videos add great depth to that especial involving the Birth of the Middle ages.

Overall I enjoyed learning new things throughout the films, however, is always a struggling to watch because they are not at all modern and become incredibly tedious. They did a great deal of adding depth to understanding the readings and art concepts because they tended to focus on parts that were highly mentioned in the readings as well as parts that were barely mentioned in the readings.

Video Blog!!!

I.The Prairie Style video is focused around Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie style homes. The architecture of these homes are based off of floating horizontal planes and very environmentally friendly relationship with its natural surroundings. The key concepts of the video were Wright's emphasis on organic homes and environmental harmony. Because of his view on architecture he greatly influenced those after him to design with the same concept.
As for the second video, Classical Architecture, focuses more on the architectural style that was developed in the ancient world, primarily influenced by the Greeks and Romans.

II. The Prairie Style Video relates to the readings because of the type of architecture it is, dealing with the organic and natural like qualities of architecture. The Classical Architecture relates to the readings alot more because in our readings there is an entire section on the influence of Greek and Roman architecture on the new world.

III. I enjoyed the Prairie Style video because it was a different type of architecture that I never really thought about. The concept of the Classical Architecture video was more interesting that the video itself. The music and old fashion like voice of the narrarator made the video a bit monotonous and created difficulty in following the video overall. Still interesting though.

IV. I chose both films based off of which title seemed most interesting to me.

Doseofdop3ness Installation!!! #sneakerhead

I. According to my readings, installation art is a new art form in which a space is presented as a work of art that can be entered, explored, experienced and reflected upon.

II. All materials can be used in installation art, the greatest thing about is that there are no limits.

III. One would make installation art for the same reasons they would partake in any form of art; to expression oneself, to share and idea, a creation or an opinion, to send a message, or just because.

IV. By far my most favorite installation since before this class is Yayoi Kusamas' Fireflies on the Water. I absolutely love what she has done. The idea of being able to leave the world behind and enter a new one that is completely out of our natural element is amazing. Its serves a paradox as being a small room defined by infinity. I love the concept of it and its aesthetics.

Step IV: Plan

I. There isn't one specific piece I felt a connection with per se besides Fireflies on the water, I took in every piece as they were.

II. The theme I'd like to use for my installation is a cross of self and what I would think to be consumerism.

III. The materials I will use are my most valued "materialistic items" such as shoes from my sneaker collection, my favorite boxing gloves, my beats headphones for my obsession with music, a Yankee cap to show my love for my home, and sock monkeys that hold meanings of their own.

IV. My installation will be located in my apartment at school, in an open space where I spend most of my time.

My installation is a compilation of some of my most prized possessions. It represents my love and hobby for my shoe collection. Each shoe presented has a story linked to it. There's always something that has happened when I've worn any of them, some good memories, some bad. The elements and principles used were color by the varying colors in each shoe, shape by the different sizes and styles of each shoe, texture; some shoes have patent leather, some have a tweed material, others are basic materials. There's pattern as in those of the 12's (photo 7).

I had fun creating this. Took me some time to figure out what to use but once I did everything else came easy. I love my sneakers and to be able to incorporate them in an art project is pretty awesome. I hoped to photograph my precious Blue Nose Pit Brooklyn in the photos but being that she's been misbehaving and on punishment I couldn't but hopefully I will be able to for future projects. The planning and creation of the site was pretty cool. I was going to do it outside but it has been raining badly so that wasn't an option. However I used my second favorite space in the apartment to take the photo's and create the installation.

Video Blog

And the late hours of the night catch me again...

Lets begin the video blog review:

1. Through the eyes of a sculptor I had no idea how many sculptors it took to make one sculpture! I think its because i always assumed it was just one person who took a massive amount of time. Having seen the steps necessary to create a sculpture makes me appreciate those who take the time to make such a masterpiece. There's not enough patience in me to complete such a thing. In the Glass and Ceramic video the key concepts to me was the process of making glass, especially since it is apart of our everyday lives. Installation art surprised me the most mainly because its the last one i think of as art, i learned that there is no true definition of installation art.

2. The videos relate to the text like any other video, by adding that image necessary to understand what you are reading, that's my favorite part of it all. To watch a video is easier to understand the material than to read, just gives the learning experience that extra umph needed.

3. I usually like the films although sometimes difficult to sit through considering the length and work necessary to go along with it. In the readings i came across what is necessary to create a sculpture, in the video I saw those steps, visually.

Peer Blogging!

For my peer review I chose two rather interesting blogs. One which had similarities to mine and the other that differed from mine quite a bit. It was interesting to see there different views on the paintings they and I had in common.  For two of the blogs we had one of each photo the same. With Brittany it was the cave, I found that awesome because she was just as intrigues by it as I was.  I found looking at my peers reflection helpful because it always good to receive a different perspective on something I found interesting. I did find the comments left on my blog helpful. I mostly enjoyed how my peers enjoyed what I had to share with them as much as I enjoyed there's.

Hope you enjoy these blogs as much as I did!
